Crane accident kills worker

GLEN AUSTIN - One construction worker was killed and another injured in a crane accident at 12.30pm on 10 September.

The workers were working on the fifth floor of a building that is under construction at the Midrand Graduate Institute in Glen Austin.

Midrand police communications officer Constable Matome Tlamela said the workers of a construction company were offloading bricks from a crane when the incident occurred.
“The crane operator moved the crane and the load [of bricks] pushed two of the workers off of the roof. One person was declared dead on the scene while another was airlifted to Milpark Hospital,” said Tlamela.
She said a case was opened to investigate the cause of the accident.
