Mother breaks daughter’s arm

MIDRAND - A woman from Phomolong appeared in court for allegedly hitting her nine-year-old daughter so hard, she broke the child's left arm.

Rabie Ridge police spokesperson Constable Jacob Nhlongo said, “The woman said she hit the child because she goes out late at night and does not wash dishes. The child said her mother got angry and threw things at her and broke her arm.”

The girl is currently admitted at a hospital where she is being treated.

The woman was arrested and appeared at Tembisa Magistrates’ Court on 9 September charged with child abuse. She was let out on R500 bail as she has another two-year-old child who has no other guardian.

Constable Nhlongo pleaded with community members to take better care of children. “We still don’t know what she used to break the child’s arm. There is a difference between disciplining a child and child abuse. Protect the children.”
