The Centurion Rekord reported the motorist was stopped at a red traffic light when a blue light convoy, allegedly transporting deputy president Cyril Ramaphosa, drove past his vehicle and through the red traffic light.
When the traffic light changed to green, the motorist reportedly pulled off but was shortly stopped by four Metro police officers on motorbikes. The officers questioned the motorist before one officer allegedly pulled open the car door and punched the motorist in the face, splitting his lip.
The man reportedly alighted from his vehicle and was allegedly assaulted by three of the officers and was then told to meet them at Grand Central Airport. On the motorist’s arrival, the officers could not be found. He was reportedly told that the convoy was transporting Ramaphosa.
Metro police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar reportedly said Metro police did not transport government officials in blue light convoys and that the incident should be reported to internal affairs for the department to investigate.
Midrand police communications officer Constable Matome Tlamela reportedly confirmed the motorist had opened a case of assault against the three officers and Midrand police were investigating the issue.
