Clinic under strain due to increase in visitors

MIDRAND - West Clinic is said to be under some pressure as two other clinics in Midrand are currently closed.

Ward 112 councillor Candice James said she has not received any complaints lately but heard from another councillor that a few people have complained of very long waiting periods at the clinic.

City of Johannesburg spokesperson Nkosinathi Nkabinde said, “The clinic has received a lot of visitors lately but extra staff have been sent to the clinic to manage the high turnout of patients. Halfway House Clinic is still undergoing renovations that began on 5 May 2014.”

He added that a set of premises with four consulting rooms have been erected at Halfway House Clinic to accommodate the extra clinic patients. “Midrand West Clinic is the only clinic on the western side of the highway servicing all clients that reside in and visit Midrand.”

The City of Johannesburg Health Department is also currently upgrading and tiling Midrand West Clinic. The City requests the community to note that “services will be staggered… very ill adults and children will be attended to in the morning and planned visits will be attended to at midday,” he said.

The City gave notice of the closure of Halfway House Clinic in the Midrand Reporter in May.

A week ago Olievenhoutbosch Clinic was temporarily closed; Midrand Reporter did not get a response as to the reason why it was closed from the City of Tshwane spokesperson.
