Mob justice is not the answer – police

IVORY PARK - Police revealed that there was an increase of incidents where community members take the law into their own hands.

Ivory Park’s Warrant Officer Neldah Sekgobela said, “We have had cases where residents mete out mob justice on an alleged suspect. Some of the victims of the alleged crimes end up dying in hospital, upon arrival.

“When the victim dies after being beaten up, police have to open a murder case against the perpetrators. We appeal to residents to report suspected criminals and crimes to the police station, they must avoid taking the law into their hands.”

She expressed that even if the suspect was caught red handed, community members should not assault the perpetrator, but report the matter to the police.
