World Animal Day, a barking good day

MIDRAND - Midrand SPCA celebrated World Animal Day with Montessori Preschool in Noordwyk and Carlswald.

Pupils were taught about proper health care for their pets, and the responsibilities that come with owning an animal.

“The inspectors, Jerry Seemise and Theo Mokgatle, together with our SPCA resident, a dog named Dobi, attended the sessions at the school and they loved interacting with the children and teaching them the importance of how to look after their pets,” said the association’s Brenda Lucas.

The inspectors taught pupils about animal freedoms, as well as how to care for their animals.

Lucas said the day and event were important as they celebrated animal life.

“It also celebrates humankind’s relationship with the animal kingdom, acknowledges the diverse roles that animals play in our lives and [allows us] to be grateful for the way in which animals enrich our lives,” said Lucas.

They visited the preschool because education is part of their mandate, the organisation said.

“Education is very important to us as children are the future of our country. We are grateful to each teacher, parent and child for the donations of pet food that were handed over to our inspectors,” they said on their Facebook page.
