Neighbour adds voice to school noise complaint

MIDRAND - The neighbour of The Valley Pre-Primary school has spoken out to share his side of the story.

Mike Pinchevsky (67) said he has been living alongside the school for 24 years and has retired. He had not noticed how loud the pupils of the school became until he went into retirement about a year ago.

Pinchevsky is being accused of disrupting the school’s pupils’ education by playing loud music on his megaphones.

Three megaphones from his home are directly faced at the school and the owner, Rosemarie Rogerson, claims he deliberately plays the music to disrupt the teaching.

Pinchevsky said the noise levels from the school were so bad they put his health at risk. “At 6.30 in the morning, the children arrive and they play a siren that wakes me.”

He also said there are other neighbours besides himself who are bothered by the noise from the school. He said, “I know two other neighbours who say the noise from the school is bothering them.” Pinchevsky said he tried to drown out the noise from the pupils by playing what he terms as “masking music”. “The authorities, including the police, have refused to help me so I play the music.”

Midrand Reporter’s social media followers have typed out their anger, reacting to the Sounds of Terror at Pre-school story.

Sandy Harvey commented on the paper’s website on 15 October, “Surely this is considered noise pollution and the police are fully within their rights to get him to adjust his volumes. This is absolutely disgusting that he is being allowed to do this! That school has been there for years and nobody else has ever had a problem with it. It’s just another example of the ineffectiveness of our police force. This is outrageous!”

Another website reader, named Tanya, claimed to be a parent of one of the pupils at the school. “My children go to this school and I have witnessed this loud neighbour play his music. I checked over the fence and all his windows were closed, doors closed and no one to be seen, yet this loud annoying music was bleating through the megaphones. We as a community should all stick together and ensure that the future of our children’s education is not destroyed by one “grumpy old man”.
