Pupils teach adults a thing or two about animal cruelty

HALFWAY HOUSE - The Grade 7 pupils of Halfway House Primary School can teach adults a thing or two about taking care of their pets.

On 25 October at Midway Mews in Halfway House, the pupils held a mini concert on behalf of their furry friends to raise awareness.

Spokesperson of the shopping centre, Karin Gerber said, “We are trying to get people to be responsible pet owners. We decided to get the children involved as people’s values are shaped when they are young.”

Gerber added that part of being a responsible pet owner was to ensure that your pet was booked into a kennel for the holiday period. “People can’t just leave their pets unattended and go on holiday, and then hope that the pet will still be there when they come back.”

The school’s principal Silas Pillay expressed pride as he watched the Grade 7s make informed and entertaining presentations to the audience.

“I am very proud of them, especially as this is their last year at the school,” said Pillay.

“We hope they carry the values they learned today into their high school years,” he said.

Pillay also expressed gratitude to the centre for their hospitality, the parents of the pupils for their support, and to the Midrand SPCA for their presence on the day.
