The company’s sustainable development manager Gaopaleloe Mothoagae said, “We would like to thank all the schools that participated in the recycling programme, the winners will become advocates for waste management and inspire communities to care for the environment.”
The company awarded R250 000 which was shared between the best performing schools in the recycling programme. Mothoagae said more than 650 tonnes of recyclable material was collected by the participating schools, and 550 000 pupils and 11 000 teachers benefited from the programme.
He said that 10 primary schools and five secondary schools made it to the competition’s finals.
“KwaZulu-Natal performed well in the primary school category, and the south region dominated the secondary school category in accordance with the beverage company’s regional classification.”
