Pear-shaped bribe leads to arrest of two alleged brothers

MIDRAND - On the morning of 10 January at around 10am, the Midrand police arrested a man for being in possession of dagga.

“The police officers were patrolling around Midrand taxi rank during a crime prevention watch,” said the statement from the police. The police spotted a suspicious-looking man carrying a black plastic bag and approached him.

While searching the man, the police found 26 zip lock bags filled with dagga hidden in the black plastic bag. The man was immediately arrested.

After the arrest of the supposed drug dealer, a man claiming to be the suspects’ brother was arrested for bribery after attempting to bribe the officers with R590, in order to release his alleged brother. Both suspects are 30 and 34 years old. respectively.

The suspects appeared at the Midrand Magistrates’ Court on 12 January facing charges of drug possession and bribery.

On a previous occasion that occurred on 3 January, an alleged drug dealer was arrested at the corner of Marker and South streets in Halfway House around 4.30pm.

He will also appear at the Midrand Magistrates’ Court on charges of bribery and drug possession. The man was arrested after being spotted in a white Toyota Tazz. During a search of the vehicle, police found an undisclosed amount of drugs.
