Young men start an unlikely business

MIDRAND - Two young men, aged 17, from Bokamoso Secondary School in Tembisa are in the business of closing up graves in Midrand.

Lethabo Komane and business partner Sello Hlaraka saw a need for the service they offer when a friend passed away.

Komane said, “When we were at a friend’s funeral, we felt it was unnecessary for us to be expected to take spades and cover the grave while we were mourning our friend.”

Komane said their parents are proud of their business. “They see that we want to make a better life and can start a business that will take off well,” says Komane.

The two decided to start covering graves so that mourners do not have to worry about that at a time of loss. The business known as Dikgosi Grave Site Closers has won a Young Entrepreneur Award from Seed Academy, a Young Entrepreneur Award from Tsogo Sun and a Nation Building Acknowledgement Award from Brand South Africa.

Komane and Hlakara are asking for sponsorship from the community and businesses in Midrand so as to grow their business. To assist Lethabo Koname and Sello Hlaraka’s business or to ask them to close a grave, contact them on
