A dozen beauties in Midrand
MIDRAND - The 12 Miss South Africa finalists recently gathered at Cell C's headquarters on Maxwell Drive to receive gifts from the mobile operators, Cell C and Huawei, on 18 February.
Cell C partnered with Huawei to give the ladies their latest gadgets, limited editions of the Huawei Ascend Mate 7. According to contestant 23-year-old Sihle Makhanya, a junior QS intern from KwaZulu Natal, the cellphone is quite a nifty little gadget.
It has an advanced selfie camera, so that the quality of pictures taken of yourself by yourself are still on par as those taken by someone else. Not only that, with the help of a selfie stick, no one in the group needs to ever be left out of memories because they were too busy taken pictures.
Managing executive of the Cell C foundation, Suzette van der Merwe said, the contestants received their handsets because they as Miss SA contestants need to create a following. She said the most impressive application on the phone was its beauty feature, “Everybody nowadays has a [photoshopped picture in any case] and in this case, the phone automatically does it for you.”
The day was not all about taking selfies though. The women were taught about social media etiquette. A skill that is severely needed in this day-and-age of news travelling within seconds.
“Be careful and responsible on social media,” said van der Merwe.
“We are proud partners, we believe that this is a platform for them to be empowered,” she said.
The 12 ladies also received training on how to use the phone’s other features. In addition to the phone, the contestants received free voice and data bundle deals from Cell C.
