Big plans to crack down crime in Sector 4

KYALAMI - Midrand police Sector 4 crime forum held their annual general meeting on 27 February at Beaulieu College.

The meeting saw Takis Michalakis re-elected as chairperson of the forum. After a short absence from the forum last year, Michalakis was delighted to once again be elected. He noted that this year, the forum has big plans to crack down on serious crimes in the area, as well as to create better relationships between the police and the community.

“We have a strong team this year. With the help from the police, security companies and the community, Sector 4 will become a safe area to live in,” he said.

Other key community members were present at the meeting including Ward 93 councillor Annette Deppe, as well as key officials from Midrand Police Station.

“Sector 4 covers Sun Valley, Blue Hills, Barbeque Downs, Treesbank, Saddlebrook, Riversands, Glenferness, Kyalami Business Park and Kyalami AH,” noted Michalakis.

Midrand police communications officer Constable Matome Tlamela addressed the meeting by detailing the crime statistics for the area. It was noted since 2013, serious crimes have dramatically decreased in the sector. However, petty crimes have increased such as smash and grabs, drinking and driving and theft out of motor vehicles.

The forum promised the community that a better and stronger relationship will be built with the police to ensure communication channels are transparent.

Michalakis dismissed the meeting on high spirits and said he would like all suburbs and community members within the sector to join the forum. He would also like the neighbourhood patrol to begin again this year and new faces are welcomed.
