Dagga found at Midrand school

MIDRAND - A bag of dagga was found in a dustbin at a Midrand school during a joint operation involving the police, Metro police and K9 dog unit.

Head of communications at the Midrand police, Constable Matome Tlamela could not disclose the name of the school so as to protect the pupils of the school.

Constable Nanti Belebesi, social crime prevention co-ordinator at the station said, “The operation was successful and the operational team managed to find a dagga-filled plastic bag, and cigarette lighters, matches and cellphones in possession of learners.”

Tlamela said the cigarette lighters and matches were confiscated from the pupils as they were dangerous weapons. “The cellphones were confiscated because the school’s policy is that no pupil should have a cellphone on them during school hours,” she said.

“The police later handed the cellphones to the school and let them implement the proper punishment. The school search operations will be an ongoing awareness drive in order to eradicate the use of drugs in schools within our policing precinct.”
