Grand prize at Grand Central Airport

MIDRAND - Grand Central Airport and their partner Shell South Africa Energy ran a competition whereby the winner won a trip to the United States of America valued at R30 000.

The airport, in collaboration with Shell found a way to reward pilots for their loyalty. When filling up their aircraft at the airport fuel bay, pilots stood a chance of winning a prize in a monthly draw.

The winner of the competition for the month of February was Jonty Frederick, a 21-year-old pilot of Superior Aviation Services. Frederick will soon be heading to the USA to visit the Oshkosh Air Show in Wisconsin which is every young pilot’s dream.

“We launched the fuel competition in September 2013 with the idea of running it for two years,” said Gary Renault, airport manager at Grand Central Airport. “We have a lot of flight schools, charter companies and private pilots making use of our airport and we wanted to show them that we appreciated their patronage.

“We have found that our fuel competition is a great way for us to give back to our supporters and hope to continue running it for the foreseeable future.”
