Illegal dumping continues in Barbeque Downs

BARBEQUE DOWNS - The Barbeque Downs community have been dealing with illegal dumping in the area for past few months.

The illegal dumping has been seemingly caused by new developments in the area. Rubble, building material and dirt have been dumped in various parts of the area.

Ward 112 councillor and head of the Barbeque Downs Community, Candice James, said, “A member of the community chased a vehicle who dumped on Dickens Road all the way through to Midrand. This was reported to and photos were send to [general manager of Pikitup] Patrick Galloway at the time and dumping is happening all over in the area.”

Ward 93 councillor Annette Deppe for the area said, “My comment is simple, I have a call centre reference number and I have sent it to the depot manager of Pikitup for his attention. It has been brought up at our Joburg 10 plus meeting and still no response, how many more times must one ask?”

Media communications officer for Pikitup Pansy Jali Oyedele, confirmed there was a complaint put in regarding Dickens Road which is being attended to. However the lack of security allows the dumping to continue.

A security company in the area said more patrols will be done in this specific area to curb illegal activity.
