This would mean areas such as Sun Valley, Bridal Pass and Blue Hills Agricultural Holdings, which are currently under Ward 112, will become part of Ward 94.
Country View Engen Garage, Erand Gardens and Noordwyk which are situated in Ward 92 will fall under Ward 112.
Sun Valley Residents’ Association spokesperson Andrew Dicks said the intent will first go through a public participation process.
He added, “Residents will have a say at planned meetings whether they agree or disagree with the proposition. The association is happy with this proposal as Sun Valley will now fall under agricultural holdings, effectively changing rates, and not be classified with Vorna Valley, a residential holding.”
Ward 112 councillor Candice James said Region A has proposed new wards which are still to be debated. If granted, Ward 112 will be incorporated into Wards 92, 93 and 94. “Ward 112 covers a large geographical area and voters. By making it smaller, I can focus on more issues. Seeing the ward split up is difficult as I have come to know many of these residents.”
The spokesperson for City of Johannesburg legislature Billy Madungandaba confirmed that Midrand had two proposed new wards awaiting approval. “If approved by the Demarcation Board, there will be one in Midrand central and the other one in Ivory Park.”
A full list of new wards will be made available once it has been approved.
