This after Midrand Police received a tip-off about stolen alcohol being kept in a garage at around 7pm on 27 April.
Upon their arrival at the premises, the police said the 34-year-old man was found in the house. They began to search the property and found boxes of alcohol. They asked the man for proof of purchase, which he failed to produce. The police said he didn’t give a satisfactory explanation of where he got the alcohol from.
Police suspect the alcohol was about to be taken to Malawi.
Matome Tlamela, head of communications for Midrand police said that as officers were arresting him, the man tried to bribe them.
He was immediately arrested and will appear in court facing charges of possession of suspected stolen goods and bribery.
“The police are still busy with investigations and are hoping to bring other suspects to book,” said Tlamela.
