Sign is top of the road blunders list

HALFWAY GARDENS - Halfway Gardens residents have raised questions over what the Johannesburg Roads Agency meant by the word 'Top' instead of 'Stop' at the stop street.

While some believed that it indicated the top of the hill, others humorously speculated that it could be that Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) had no space for the ‘S’ on the tiny corner of Third and First roads. While others said the agency’s strict budget could have been the reason for the exclusion of S.

The road agency was made aware of the matter, seemingly, after a Facebook post emerged on the People of Midrand Facebook page. Midrand residents took it well, some showing off their funny bones. Following the post on 20 April, the S, along with order, was restored on Third and First roads by theagency on 28 April.

Bertha Peters-Scheepers, spokesperson for the agency, said the blunder was an honest mistake. “The error occurred during the patching of the road, but the matter has been rectified,” she said. However, she did not divulge how the mistake happened.

Peters-Scheepers said the agency would like to apologise for the matter to residents.
