The e-school will serve as a learning platform with Internet access to educational content for all Grade 8 to 12 high school pupils. Through the e-school, pupils who are Vodacom subscribers will now be able to access classroom content which is curriculum aligned on their mobile device across all major subjects for free.
Chief corporate affairs officer, Maya Makanjee said, “The project is in line with our ongoing drive to help provide ICT tools and Internet connectivity to communities that do not have access.”
By providing access to the Internet, it would improve the standard of education and uplift pupils.
Makanjee said they were aware that many pupils in the country often do not have access to learning materials such as textbooks. This makes excelling at school more difficult. Through the Vodacom e-school platform, they can help address this challenge.
She said, “Our goal is to ensure that pupils throughout the country have access to some basic tools to help enhance their learning outside of the classroom.”
All that users need do is visit the e-school website from their cellphone, tablet or laptop to register. For those who are not customers of Vodacom, data charges will be incurred when logging on to the site.
Makanjee explained their reasoning behind the free data. “Most pupils have access to cellphones, laptops or tablets in one way or another, but may not have adequate data. Having free access to our education content portal will now help remove the barriers to e-learning.”
Pupils will be able to complete lessons from their school syllabus, track their progress and see how they are performing compared to other students on the website.
