The invitation was extended to members of the public on 23 June and will run until 22 July. The venue of registration is Grace Point Church and residents can submit their concerns daily between 7.30am and 5pm.
The public participation review session is for the 30km stretch of road which has been on the City’s proposed road network since the 70s.
Residents and environmentalists have been objecting to the development of the K56 road as it is a threat to the survival of endangered African bullfrogs, and conservationists are also keen to preserve the flourishing horse industry in the area.
Chairperson of the Greater Kyalami Conservancy, Kristin Kallesen explained in May last year that the area was home to the largest section of the horse industry in South Africa with at least 1 000 horses in Glenferness alone. If the road is constructed, Cedarwood Primary School would have to be relocated, which residents are also against.
The financially-powerful and booming business community mushrooming in Kyalami is pushing for the development of the K56 Road.
