The centre was formed to address skills shortages, provide food parcels and clothing to the chosen beneficiaries, as well as advice and referrals to community members. The educational centre’s manager, Makgoba Pagadi said, “The centre offers free training to members of the community interested in acquiring computer and catering skills. We also assist with job placements for students who finish the course.”
He added that the centre will provide life skills training as a compulsory course and calls on community leaders and business people to inspire the students. The centre pays R3 000 tuition per student. Invited guests at the award ceremony included Ward 110 councillor Stephen Lamola, Ward 92 councillor Leepile Motsumi, and Jacqueline Dease who works for the City of Joburg’s credit control department.
According to Pagadi, councillor Motsumi advised students to speak to councillors when they encounter problems when looking for jobs, as councillors can point them to places that receive funding from the Department of Social Development.”
