All in the act of goodwill

MIDRAND - Three Midrand schools and a children's home put their efforts together to help out different communities within Gauteng.

Pupils and parents of Carlswald House Preparatory and their sister school 345 Nursery School held a charity drive in celebration of Mandela Day that saw them donating care packs to three daycare centres in Tembisa.

The pupils and parents were tasked with the collection of bars of soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, crayons, scarves and beanies, which were then packaged in backpacks purchased and donated by the schools. These were distributed to Roviningo Pre-School, Elelwani Pre-School and Little Stars Pre-School.

“We would like to extend our gratitude to everyone involved,” said the principal of the two schools, Stewart Tagg.

“It was a privilege for us to bring a smile to the wonderful children we met.”

Brighter Beginnings Preschool in Halfway Gardens collected food, cleaning products and educational toys for the Sunshine Association in Craighall Park.

“After the parents at our school saw the simple requests on the association’s wish list which were peanut butter, toilet paper, soap and tissues, they all dug deep and contributed over R18 000 worth of goods,” said Jacqui Wilson, principal of the preschool.

Children of New Jerusalem Children’s Home (NJC) also donated to those less fortunate. The children donated blankets to a Tembisa-based old age home, Supa Di Mama. CEO of NJC home, Anna Mojapelo, acknowledged the children’s efforts and said, “The day was just beautiful and harmonious.”

NJC’s public relations officer, Patrick Emorhokpor said, “We would like to express our gratitude to all the parties that came to New Jerusalem Children’s Home to honour their 67 minutes [with us].”
