The two, along with four others, attended the camp which is a multicultural youth organisation that strives to positively influence youth about the environment and society through fun activities, handicrafts and camps during the school holidays.
Grade 8 pupils, Nthabiseng Matepe and Kaone Motsathebe told Midrand Reporter that they learnt about nature and discipline at the camp, and it has also helped to build their characters
The school’s vice-principal Dirk van Nierkerk said, “We are proud of our pupils, this is a great achievement for them.”
Each camp club in Gauteng organises a provincial camp which takes place during the June school holidays. During this provincial camp, pupils or members are chosen by certain criteria and are elected as members to represent Gauteng at the national camp.
Gauteng Land Service chairperson Cobus Brits said through this camping process pupils developed human relations and leadership skills.
Brits added, “The national camp takes place during December where 10 provinces will meet. Members can also achieve awards and certificates and can even qualify for Springbok colours.”
