New state-of-the-art clinic in Midstream

MIDSTREAM - Mediclinic Southern Africa officially opened its newest hospital, Mediclinic Midstream, in Midstream.

Gauteng MEC for Health, Dorothy Mahlangu, was the dignitary speaker at the opening event. She lauded Mediclinic for their vision to embrace technology. She commented that the facility is one that the province can be proud of as it showcases healthcare innovation which benefits patients.

Mahlangu also stressed the importance of the private and public sectors working together in finding solutions for the challenges facing healthcare in South Africa.

The facility cost R570 million to build. “The driving force was to create an exceptional hospital, one that integrated the patient’s experience and well-being into its very DNA. The result is an eco-friendly hospital with a revolutionary ICT system and infrastructure that integrates each patient’s data and makes it available to all the relevant medical personnel across all platforms in real time,” stated Dr Edwin Hertzog, chairman of Mediclinic International.

The private hospital boasts 176 beds. “Ultimately we are set to become the location of choice for doctors and specialists who wish to take their practices to the next level in a space that enables an innovative synergy of science, technology and patient-centric healthcare,” said Hertzog.

The hospital’s manager, Ferdi Kotzé said, “The highly sophisticated infrastructure implemented at this hospital results in less paperwork for the patient and less waiting time on discharge. It also ensures that the medical staff gain instant, effortless access to patient data,”

The system enables admission personnel to share patient demographic information directly with the admitting doctor as well as pathology laboratory and radiology. This also results in a smoother and more convenient admission process as only one form needs to be completed by patients.
