The woman told police she was walking next to the graveyard on 16 August when the suspect allegedly approached her and forced her to go to the nearby open veld where he allegedly repeatedly raped her. After the ordeal, the 30-year-old suspect allegedly left the victim at the scene tied up and stole her cellphone. The victim managed to untie herself and ran to seek help from the community.

Ivory Park police spokesperson Warrant Officer Neldah Sekgobela said, “By receiving a description of the suspect from the victim, community members managed to follow the suspect and held him at Tswelopele, a township in Midrand. Police were called and the suspect was detained in the Ivory Park Police Station’s cells.”
She added that police are investigating to see if the suspect might be linked to six other rape cases which took place in the same area in July.
The suspect will appear at the Tembisa Magistrates’ Court soon facing charges of rape and robbery.
Ivory Park police want to thank the community members who caught the suspect and assisted in taking another criminal off the streets.
