As part of the handover ceremony, the church invited speakers from different work fields to speak to the pupils about exploring their career options.
One of the speakers, Londolani Masianuga, a dietician in the South African Defence Force said, “You don’t have to carry a gun in order to be in the force. I am in the health department and am based in an army hospital.”
Another speaker, Ndaba Msalili, CEO of Stratsmith Marketing Solutions encouraged pupils to start writing their own unconventional testimonials. “These days you write your own testimonial on social media. The way in which you interact on these platforms is being watched by employers. Make sure it doesn’t put them off,” said Msalili.
Part of the ceremony was the recognition of two of the best performing 2015 matric pupils who are members of the church.
Clifford Silinda was awarded a R10 000 bursary by the church after achieving six distinctions. The former Eqinisweni Senior Secondary pupil is planning on pursuing a chemical engineering degree at the University of Cape Town.
Kelly Makola of Allanridge Secondary School obtained four distinctions and was a awarded a R5 000 bursary. Makola said she was going to study towards a BA in digital media design at the University of Johannesburg.
