Mini car wash for Tumelo Home

MIDRAND - Minions Midrand Miniacs, a group of individuals who own Mini Coopers, came together on 30 January to host a car wash and raise funds for Tumelo Home, a home for orphaned and abandoned disabled people.

The group’s president, Trevor Raedani said when he started the group with a few friends, he had the vision of finding a special way in which to raise funds for the less fortunate. “When I was living in Pretoria, I was part of a similar club, and when I moved to Midrand I wanted to recreate it,” said Raedani.

He said they began with just eight members, but in under two years, the club has grown to 30 members.

The club hosted the car wash on the corner of Liebenberg and Lever roads. “The community support has been amazing, even the venue was donated to us, for today, by the owner,” said Raedani.

Among the people who made their way to the car wash were Midrand residents, Mxolisi Mashiya and Bongiwe Nyovane.

Mashiya said he was attracted to the cause because he knew the money would go to those who need it most. “I love what they [Midrand Miniacs] are doing. I am of the opinion that we need to help out wherever we can, especially those who are less privileged than ourselves,” he said.

Nyovane said that although she doesn’t have a car, she still wanted to come and donate. “Tumelo Home is a great cause, I am here to lend my support and have a good time doing it.”

Those who came to the car wash were kept entertained by the music and conversation.

The Midrand Miniacs are planning on buying items such as food and clothing from the home’s wish list and will hand it over on 26 February during a ceremony that will also serve as their official launch as a club.
