Sagewood School pupil walks away with R1 000
MIDRAND - Shamista Daya, a pupil of Sagewood School in Midrand, recently walked away with a cash prize of R1 000 after designing a box for pencils, pens, crayons and glue for her entry in the Bic Art Challenge competition. Bic manufactures stationery products and school supplies.
The competition encouraged pupils to tap into their creative skills and brought excitement to classrooms at different schools. The art competition and roadshow, now in its fourth year, was co-ordinated by Zinto Marketing Group which specialises in creating new platforms for brands to engage with the youth.
It is part of Bic’s ongoing commitment to tackling the challenges of education and literacy in South Africa and improving the standard of learning by contributing quality resources and writing instruments which are lacking in many schools.
Sagewood School’s media centre specialist and marketing manager, Thandeka Maphumulo said, “We wish to recognise and commend Shamista Daya. We are proud of her outstanding achievement for her prize in the junior section.”
Marketing manager of Bic, Wandile Setlhodi said, “During the outreach, more than 150 schools and more than 90 000 pupils across Gauteng were encouraged to be the best they could be and excel at school, and to take the necessary steps to make their dreams become a reality.”
Setlholi added that the educational school roadshow also addresses current social issues affecting youth such as self-respect, self-worth, respect for parents, elders and teachers, and anti-bullying.
Join the Bic movement and show your support by helping to make a difference in the lives of more than one million lesser-resourced pupils by purchasing the specially-marked promotional packs when topping up stationery baskets and help donate millions of pens to pupils in need.
