Rivonia Primary School raises money to help dedicated detective’s son
RIVONIA - Rivonians On A Mission (Roam), a social outreach group of Rivonia Primary School, were so moved by an article in Fourways Review that they decided to challenge all other schools in Johannesburg to either equal or better their donation of R1 000 to a child in need.

The article, Detective’s fund search, week ending 19 February, reported on Douglasdale police’s Detective Constable Victor Gabaekangoe’s son Bokamoso who needs a processor for his cochlear implant, and the pupils decided to take action.
The school had a coin collection on Valentine’s Day to raise funds for Bokamoso’s implant. The teachers in charge of Roam, Meredith Erasme and Sue Prices, said if the community gave a little, as a collective, they could all make a huge difference in a child’s life.
Douglasdale spokesperson Warrant Officer Balan Muthan said part of their duties as policemen and women were to serve the community. He added that they were known as the family in blue and it was also part of their duty to reach out to fellow members who faced difficult challenges, such as the detective.
Douglasdale station commander, Brigadier Lettie Hugo said Gabaekangoe was a dedicated detective who had integrity and it was unfortunate that he did not have the means to solve his problem. “All I urge, not on behalf of the station but in my personal capacity, is for somebody or a company to help Gabaekangoe make the necessary provision for his son,” said Hugo.
At present, Bokamoso attends the Children’s Communications Centre’s and if you would like to donate to the centre their banking details are:
