Hope Fountain children warned
MIDRAND – The Midrand Police Station held a talk against crime at the Hope Fountain Combined School.
The Midrand Police Station delivered a talk about crime, drugs, alcohol and illegal weapons at the Hope Fountain Combined School in Midrand on 22 February.
The police officers were joined by the South African National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (Sanca), African Youth Development Fund and the Victim Empowerment Centre.
Midrand Police Station’s communication officer, Brigadier Matome Tlamela, delivered the keynote address and spoke about the implications of being found with weapons or illegal substances in school or in public.
She warned the children that participating in criminal activities can end up with them being prosecuted because, now, a child aged 10 can be arrested.

A representative from the empowerment centre, Leboge Matlala, informed the children that anyone who is a victim of any form of abuse at school, at home or even in their community, should go to the Midrand Police Station and seek counselling and help from the centre, adding that it was created for such reasons.
Sanca called on all pupils struggling with alcohol and drug addictions to visit their facilities for rehabilitation and assistance.
Tlamela said the police will hold an unannounced search at the school as a follow up on the talk to ensure that pupils are focused on their education and staying far away from crime, alcohol and drugs.
