MIDRAND – The liquor was confiscated over a period of three months from shebeens.

Ivory Park police confiscated liquor estimated to be about 1 200 litres on 14 March.

The liquor was confiscated over a period of three months from shebeens selling alcohol without liquor licences.

Ivory Park Police Station Commander Brigadier David Ngcobo warned illegal shebeen owners that they would continue to suffer immense financial losses as only licensed taverns were allowed to sell liquor.

Ngcobo said, “We have noticed that most of our contact crimes are as a result of the level of drunkenness prevalent in our area and that illegal taverns exacerbate our problem.

“Some of these conditions which illegal liquor traders do not follow is the allowed trading hours and the fact that they not supposed to sell liquor to minors.”
