Family finally receives post mortem report after daughter’s mystery death

MIDRAND – Family members of a missing girl who was found dead in the Germiston mortuary three months after disappearing, are still looking for answers.

The family of Malibongwe Msiza, whose body was found in the Germiston mortuary after she went missing, has finally received her post-mortem report but still don’t have the answers they are looking for.

The 21-year-old was last seen in Tembisa on 29 October last year and her family was only informed by the Olifantsfontein police about her death on 8 February this year. She was apparently the victim of a hit and run accident on the day of her disappearance and her body was kept at the Germiston mortuary.

Her mother Roslyn Msiza said she received her daughter’s post-mortem report in the first week of March. “It was so dark and we couldn’t [read] it properly, so we made an appointment with the doctor who wrote the report. He told us that my daughter had sustained multiple head injuries. [It is] hard to establish whether she got them before or during the alleged accident,” she said.

Msiza has accused the police of negligence and is considering lodging a complaint with Gauteng police commissioner Lieutenant-General Deliwe de Lange for failing to inform the family about her daughter’s death immediately after the accident, even though they allegedly had her cellphone.

“I was waiting for the post-mortem report before lodging a complaint with the provincial commissioner. This hurts because the more we are looking for answers, the more we are left in the dark. I’m hoping to get to the bottom of the matter so that we can find closure as a family,” she added.
