Celebrating the African child with the New Jerusalem Children’s Home

MIDRAND – New Jerusalem Children's Home celebrates Africa Day with LTM Trust.

The New Jerusalem Children’s Home, together with LTM Trust, celebrated Africa Day on 25 May in front of the boys’ unit, which is under construction in President Park.

The celebration was aimed at spreading the voice of African humanity and to call upon unity, love and respect towards one another. It was also to remind humanity that oneness is the way towards building the Africa.

LTM Trust also donated floor and wall tiles to cover the 610 square metres of the boys’ residential unit floor and walls. The 42 boys are currently accommodated in an overcrowded old double garage.

“Mother Africa has many developmental needs and building and restoring dignity to the African child is one of them. [It’s about] giving children adequate shelter which will allow them to say, please come and see my bedroom,” said trustee, Thandeka Mbethe.

She added that New Jerusalem Children’s Home was in its developing stages and needed assistance where possible. “Let’s look at ourselves and make Africa a safe place for an African child to dream and strive to be the best.”

Chief executive officer of New Jerusalem Children’s Home, Anna Mojapelo said she was humbled by the gesture of humanity by the trust. “A simple visit to New Jerusalem Children’s Home is a meaningful celebration to me personally. Seeing how we celebrated it and paving a path we all wish to see – giving the boys hope, privacy and dignity. We believe it will better their psychological well-being,” said Mojapelo.

The boys’ residential unit still requires R434 523 to complete construction, as per sourced quotations.
