Busy Corner giving back to the community
MIDRAND – Busy Corner Imbizo Shisanyama gave five local NPO's R5000 each.
Busy Corner Imbizo Shisanyama gave away R5 000 to five different community non-profit organisations on 4 October in Ebony Park.
The funds were raised by hosting Heritage Day celebrations on 24 September with a R5 entrance fee, in total R25 000 was raised.
Busy Corner has been hosting Heritage Day celebrations since 2002 and this year it celebrated their 15th year.

Managing director Senzosakhe Mhlongo pointed out that even though Heritage Day is also called Braai Day – which would result in a lot of profit for a shisanyama – they are a brand with African values and have chosen to keep it a Heritage Day celebration.
“Africans often find themselves belittled or perhaps not worthy of portraying themselves with pride, therefore, in 2002, Busy Corner founder Rita Zwane decided to do something, not only for her customers but also the community by giving them a full African experience,” said Mhlongo.
The event had always been free, but this year they wanted to raise funds and still keep it affordable for the community.
More than 5 000 people attended the event and Mhlongo is pleased with the turnout. He remains hopeful of the coming years.
“Only registered NPO’s were considered for the donations so that the use of these monies can be tracked and evaluated,” said Mhlongo.

The money was divided among Tembisa Pad Drive, Bokamoso Children’s Home, Bathabeleng Home, Batho Thabang and Born to Excel.
