25 birds found dead in Glen Austin

Glen Austin residents recently braved a cold day in response to the City of Johannesburg Executive Mayor’s initiative to cleanup the city.

During the clean-up of an area at the Glen Austin Bird and Bullfrog Sanctuary, many dead birds were cleared away.

Speaking on behalf of the sanctuary, Christine Robinson said, “During the clean-up, residents found 25 dead Sacred Ibis at the sanctuary and one injured one which was taken for treatment.”

She told the Midrand Reporter that investigations are being done by a state vet to find out what is killing the birds.
