Ward councillor Deppe takes Kyalami Prep kids on tour of recycling plant

MIDRAND – Schools in ward 132 are encouraged to visit Phamili Recycling Plant.

Children from Kyalami Preparatory School recently went on a fun-filled tour where they learnt all about recycling.

Ward 132 councillor Annette Deppe took children on a tour of Phambili Recycling Plant on 24 July. Deppe said the children had a lot of fun as they were taught about recycling and shown around the facility. “I took the kids to see the facility, they enjoyed themselves and were educated by the staff. They were shown what it means to recycle. They also learned the difference between items that can be recycled and those that are heaviest. They watched on as the crusher squashed the plastics and all of them found it most interesting,” said Deppe.

She added that the children were very observant. “I asked them some questions afterwards and gave them prizes. It was a lovely visit had by all. I would like to encourage other schools in Ward 132 to take a trip to Phambili in the future. We need to get into the habit of recycling as the City of Joburg has started making it compulsory.”

Deppe said those who haven’t received a recycling blue bag or would like to be added to the Ward 132 Phambili WhatsApp group, can contact her on annette@deppe.co.za or 082 886 8619.
