Tembisa learners encouraged to follow their dreams

MIDRAND – Former home affairs minister Malusi Gigaba encourages learners to grab every opportunity that comes their way.

On 16 January the Kuzondlula Initiative launched its back-to-school campaign in Ebony Park under the theme ‘It’s possible, I can do it’.

Former home affairs minister Malusi Gigaba and the foundation gave motivational talks to learners at Tsosoloso Ya Africa Secondary School in Ebony Park, Midrand.

In his address, Gigaba encouraged learners to grab every opportunity that comes their way with both hands. “You must take advantage of opportunities, especially those in education. This will enable you to fulfil the dreams of Albertina Sisulu and Nelson Mandela.”

He encouraged the learners to never let the challenges they face limit the hopes and dreams that they have for their futures.

The back-to-school campaign which began in 2013 aims to motivate learners and teachers across the Gauteng province, to learn and produce excellent results.

Chairperson of the Kuzondlula Initiative Vuyolethu Sibiya said motivation and confidence go a long way in terms of producing results. “As learners kick-start the academic year, we want to congratulate those who have done well and encourage those who did not do well to work hard and never lose hope.

“The plan is to equip learners with tips and strategies to studying.”

Hard-hitting issues such as teenage pregnancy, child-headed households, alcohol and drug abuse were also addressed during the visit. Learners at the school were encouraged to stay away from drugs and focus on their futures.

Sibiya added, “The aim is to target and assist as many schools as possible. We will be visiting more schools in Tembisa for the month of January, then move to another area.”
