The learners and teachers at Summerhill Preparatory School took part in the annual Mathletics Maths Challenge.
Mathletics Maths Challenge is an online challenge where schools from all around the world compete through the website’s online curriculum-based-activities to earn points.
Teacher, Charlene Goble said, “Schools from every corner of the globe participated and Summerhill has shone brightly in their performance during the course of the online international Mathletics Maths Challenge Week.”
The school classes battled it out with Grade 2 teacher Vanessa Singh’s class finishing off the week on top with an impressive 15 885 points.
In second place was Grade 4 teacher Daniel Mazambara’s class with 97 739 points and Grade 4 teacher Paulette Moonsamy’s class in third with 85 361 points.
Goble added, “Students and teachers dressed up in outfits relating to maths on Thursday 14 March, when we celebrated Pi Day at the school.
“We had a huge variety of costumes including dominoes, rubrics, symmetry and conundrums to mention but a few. Teachers adapted their lessons for the day to show students that maths is used in many different ways in all subjects.”
In the end, the school took 19th place on the Mathletics Maths Challenge among all the schools in the world, while placing fifth among South African schools.
“What a thrilling week was had by all, we can certainly count on our teachers and students to make maths exciting for all of us,” concluded Goble.
