Man allegedly killed by mob

CLAYVILLE – Young man in his 20s is killed after allegedly stealing from the residents at Winnie Mandela in Tembisa.

Police were called after a young man’s body was found lying next to the river in Tswelopele Ext 8 on 26 April.

Ward 1 councillor Derek Thomson called the Midrand Reporter to report that a young man had allegedly been killed by a mob and that his body had been lying at the scene where it was found, since around 11am.

On arrival around 2pm, the Midrand Reporter attempted to get details of the incidents from the residents of Tswelopele but nobody would to say anything.

Some residents informed the Midrand Reporter that the young man had allegedly stolen a phone at Winnie Mandela in Tembisa.

Residents said that they suspected that the young man had tried to run to his house in Tswelopele in an attempt to get away from the mob but failed.

According to the Ivory Park Police Station spokesperson Captain Bernard Matimulane, none of the bystanders at the scene was willing to tell the police what happened either.

He added, “It looked like a mob incident but investigations are continuing.”
