An aim to ‘raise the bar of sports’

OLIFANTSFONTEIN – Our intention is to raise the bar of sports to the highest level such that we create learners that are well balanced, said Lesibana Molepo who is the school principal at Olifantsfontein Primary School.

Olifantsfontein Primary School hosted schools from in and around Midrand for their annual sports day on 17 August.

Midrand, Edleen, Bonaero, Winnie Mandela and Glen Austin primary schools participated along with the host school in netball and soccer tournaments.

Olifantsfontein Primary School principal Lesibana Molepo said, “This is a programme that we started seven years ago and it was as a consequence of us taking a position as a school saying that we needed to be a school that excels in academics.”

Molepo added that for that to happen they decided they would have to take extracurricular activities seriously. “Our intention is to raise the bar of sports to a level where our learners would be enhanced so that if a learner does not excel in academics they must also excel in sports.

“But again if you excel in both it is a bonus for us. Our intention is to raise the bar of sports to the highest level such that we create learners that are well balanced.”

Molepo said they could not have done it alone and needed private and public partners to turn their dream into a reality.

“That is when we got A-thermal Retort Technologies as our sponsor to assist us to achieve our goals, and thus far we think we are succeeding because this is our seventh year,” Molepo concluded.
