WATCH – 60-year-old woman rescued after trying to cross a flooded bridge in Ivory Park

IVORY PARK – Ivory Park has experienced heavy rains in the past 24 hours.

A 60-year-old female was rescued in Ivory Park on 8 December after she was trapped on a piece of land trying to cross a flooded man-made bridge in the area.

City of Johannesburg Emergency Management Services (EMS) spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi said the woman was rescued by a swift water rescue team in the Themba Khoza area and congratulated the rescuers.

Ivory Park has experienced heavy rains since last night (8 December) with some parts experiencing flooding and high water levels. The South African Weather Service has warned that parts of the Gauteng province are expected to have localised flooding, particularly in low-lying areas.

Mulaudzi urged motorists to exercise caution, extend a safe following distance and avoid crossing flooded roads and bridges as many roads across the city are wet and slipperily.
