Dubula Stars youngster dreams of following in Kylian Mbappé’s footsteps
Following a successful debut season with Rabie Ridge-based side Dubula Stars United FC, 12-year-old Sibusiso Zulu is determined to help his team lift more silverware, and hopes to one day play abroad.
Dubula Stars United FC baller Sibusiso Zulu is already proving himself as one of the club’s brightest young prospects, with ambitions of one day playing professional football, both in South Africa and abroad.
The Grade 7 learner from Dr Mathole Motshekga Primary School has shown remarkable versatility since joining the Rabie Ridge-based club last year. Starting as a goalkeeper for the U11 side, Sibusiso has since transitioned into midfield and attack, where he continues to develop his skills and make an impact on the field.

Inspired by French superstar Kylian Mbappé, the 12-year-old hopes to emulate the World Cup winner’s pace and exciting style of play. “I would love to play for bigger teams like Orlando Pirates, because that’s the club I support, and also Mamelodi Sundowns. My biggest dream is to play overseas. I love Mbappé because of the way he plays and his speed. One day I want to reach his level.”
Reflecting on his first season with Dubula Stars, Sibusiso said it was a memorable campaign that gave him valuable experience after featuring for both the U11s as a shot-stopper and the U13s as an inside player.

“Last year I played for both the U11 and U13 teams. The U11s finished second in the league, while the U13s won the league title. This season, we want to continue that momentum and win the league again.”
Having found the back of the net for the U13 side last season, the young attacker has set himself an even bigger goal this year. “I want to score more goals than I did last season, and help my team achieve success by winning the league again.”

Beyond football, Sibusiso believes the sport is helping him stay focused, and to avoid negative influences affecting many young people in his community. “Even when schools are closed, we keep playing because it’s important for us to continue improving. As young players, we must listen to our coaches and learn new skills, so that one day we can play overseas and make lots of money.”
He added that football offers young people a positive path towards achieving their dreams. “Football can open doors and change your life. It keeps us away from bad things like smoking and other negative influences that are common where I live in Ivory Park. If you work hard, football can take you places and help you build a better future.”
