No load-shedding expected today
JOBURG – The system is still tight but the risk of load-shedding is low.
Eskom has said in a statement that the risk of load-shedding is low today, 29 January.
The power utility said they were running open gas turbines to meet the power demand. “Unplanned outages are slowly declining and were at 12 620 MW as at 6.30am this morning,” said Eskom
The planned maintenance schedule will be continued while the Eskom teams work around the clock to bring back on line units that experienced a breakdown. “Keeping generation units breakages below 9 500 MW is part of a plan to manage our ageing fleet and bring stability back into the power system.”
The public is encouraged to use electricity smartly while at work to keep the power system stabilised:
- Use the cold water tap.
- Only fill kettles with as much water as you need.
- Set air-conditioners’ average temperatures at 23°C.
- Turn off computers, copiers and printers at the switch and avoid standby or sleep mode.
- Switch off the lights when you leave the office.
