Midrand police officers arrest two suspects for drug possession

Spokesperson for the Midrand Police Station, Constable Elliot Mabulane said that the police are out in full force during the lockdown.

The Midrand police arrested two suspects for the possession of an illegal substance during an early morning patrol on 16 April.

Spokesperson for the Midrand Police Station, Constable Elliot Mabulane said one suspect was arrested during a 6am roadblock on the N1 highway near the Olifantsfontein Road off-ramp. The 34-year-old suspect was stopped in a Toyota Corolla. The police searched the vehicle and found a 20.7kg plastic bag of khat in the boot of the suspect’s car.

The suspect was detained at the Midrand Police Station and charged with possession of an illegal substance.

On the same day, the Midrand police conducted a search at the Old Pretoria Road taxi rank in Midrand. Upon further investigation, one suspect was found with drugs in his possession. Mabulane added that the suspect attempted to bribe the arresting officer with R2 000 which the officer refused.

The suspect was charged with possession of an illegal substance and bribery and detained at the Midrand Police Station.

Mabulane added, “The Midrand police condemn the unnecessary movement during the Covid-19 lockdown. Suspects should be aware that during this lockdown, the police are still out there in full force to arrest those that are in contradiction with the law and will be dealt with.”
