Midrand police make multiple arrests

MIDRAND – Midrand police clamped down on crime by arresting a number of suspects involved in separate incidents.

Midrand police shared news concerning a number of arrests that took place within their policing precinct in recent weeks.

Possession of stolen property

Spokesperson for the Midrand Police Station, Sergeant Matome Tlamela said on 1 September, officers were patrolling along 14th Road, Noordwyk, when they passed a white Hyundai H100 truck.

Tlamela said the truck had two occupants inside and another two men were outside the vehicle talking to the occupants.

The officers saw the two men outside the vehicle pushing bicycles towards the truck. When they were approached by police, one suspect ran away while the other, who had a bicycle in his possession, was arrested.

Tlamela said the arrested suspect told police that he was intending to collect items hidden in the bush. When police searched the bush, they found a microwave, four bicycles, clothing and two electric pliers. The three suspects were arrested for possession of stolen property.

In a separate incident on 2 September, Midrand police arrested two suspects for possession of a suspected stolen vehicle at the corner of K101 and Allandale Road, Midrand.

In another incident on 6 September, police arrested a suspect for possession of suspected stolen property in Riversands after police were called by a security officer to the area. They found a suspect in possession of five plastic chairs.

Housebreaking and theft

Midrand police arrested two suspects, aged 20 and 23, for a housebreaking and theft incident which took place in George Road, Noordwyk on 1 September.

Tlamela said the complainant alleged that on 31 August he went to sleep with his family at 9pm with his doors locked and windows closed.

At about 2.30am on 1 September, the complainant was woken up by his wife when she heard a noise outside.

“When he went to check, he found a step ladder leaning against a wall and a black plastic bag containing clothes,” added Tlamela.

The complainant proceeded to their Wendy House and found that the door was forced open and a number of items including a child’s bicycle, microwave, weedeater, toolbox and tools to the value of R8 000 had been stolen.

When police patrolled the area, they arrested two suspects for housebreaking and theft.

Hijacking

A suspect was arrested in Ivory Park on 2 September when his fingerprints were found in a recovered hijacked vehicle.

According to Tlamela, the suspect is implicated in a hijacking incident on 19 February this year involving an e-hailing service driver.

The e-hailing service driver said he received a request for a ride from Loftus Stadium in Pretoria to Ebony Park for one passenger. On arrival in Ebony Park, the passenger was met by another person. The passenger then pulled the driver out the vehicle and he was searched and the suspects stole his cell phone, cards and cash and he was ordered to run away.

The value of the hijacked car was R100 000.
