A Klipfontein View man was allegedly scammed on 6 October after attempting to buy a car he saw in a advertisement.
According to the Rabie Ridge Police Station spokesperson Constable Jacob Nhlongo, the complainant said he saw a Red Mazda CX5 on sale with a number on the advertisement which he called.
“During the call, he was told to deposit some money to get a buyer’s code and the car would be delivered to him.
“After depositing the money he called to ask when the car would be delivered to him and was told there was something wrong with the car. They said they would bring it to him after sorting out the problem.”
The suspect allegedly told the complainant that he couldn’t pay him back the money because he needed to pay lobola.
Nlhongo added that the complainant then tried to call the suspect a few times but realised that his phone number was blocked and reported the case on 14 October.
Nhlongo warned the community members about buying things online and not verifying the seller or company’s details before making a purchase. Nhlong added, “We always are and will not stop reminding our community members to do thorough research before buying things online before people get scammed.”
