Chamber aims to grow local business

RABIE RIDGE – Jacob Smith, communications for Greater Midrand Busines Chamber explained that once business join their respective forums, the forums can then join the chamber which in return will lobby for the forums and help small business enterprises.


In a bid to unite businesses in the greater Midrand area, the Greater Midrand Business Chamber (GMBC) is calling on all business forums in Region A to join the chamber and participate in growing local businesses.

Head communications and strategy planning for the chamber, John Smith said the chamber was formally launched on 3 December 2019 and was recognised by many entities including Gauteng Regional Economic Transformation Portfolio.

He added that the chamber currently included business forums in the eastern part of Region A, from Ivory Park to Kyalami and surrounding areas.

Smith explained that once businesses joined their respective forums, the forums could join the chamber which in return would lobby for the forums and help small business enterprises.

“GMBC is organised as an economic and business structure in the Greater Midrand area and represents ward-based business forums,” he said.

Smith added that their mission as a chamber was to promote the development of black businesses and strived to advance their meaningful participation in

the main stream economy in South Africa.

The chamber would focus on campaigning for the improvement of South Africa’s social economic climate for the benefit of black businesses and the community they served. Also, to develop black businesses to their full potential, including the pursuit of skills training and skills transfer, good governance, and continual education among other things.

“GMBC’s main focus is township, urban and rural-based formal and informal businesses including those run by women and youths.

“GMBC office bearers consist of chairperson Sydney Monaise, deputy chairperson Rosina Mohale , secretary general Duke Langa, and Rosina Kekane and Dudu Supe as joint organisers. Abel Manana and Matseleng Dikotla are joint deputy secretaries and Jacob Smith is the head of communication and strategy.”
