A man was arrested on 25 April for allegedly murdering his girlfriend in Phomolong.
According to Sergeant Jacob Nhlongo, spokesperson for the Rabie Ridge Police Station, at around 2pm, the police received a complaint that a person was found dead in the area.
Nhlongo said that upon arrival at the scene, police found the suspect’s brother, who took them to a room where the deceased’s body was located.
“Police found the female body laying on the bed with a stab wound on the neck. A team of detectives led by Detective Sergeant Jeffrey Mhlongo worked very hard and cracked the case open,” said Nhlongo.
He added that prior to the death of the woman, she and her boyfriend were having drinks on 24 April in his room at his house.
“[It is alleged] when the victim requested to have money to buy alcohol a fight broke out between the two. While fighting the deceased was stabbed with a sharp object.”
Nhlongo added that the police were able to successfully trace and arrest the suspect for murder.
The suspect has since appeared in the Tembisa Magistrates’ Court.
