A high visibility joint law enforcement operation in Midrand led to a number of suspects being arrested.
Midrand police, Sector Crime Forum patrollers and security companies conducted the operation on May 13.
The security companies included TRSS Security, Hawkeye Security and ARN Security.
During the operation, the teams responded to a request by TRSS for backup in Kyalami where alleged suspects were seen loitering near a cellphone tower and an electricity pole.
“Upon investigating the scene, we found that an electricity supply transformer had been removed,” said TRSS in a statement.

During a search of the area, the operation team found the missing transformer hidden under branches and leaves and the suspects were arrested.
In another incident, Midrand police and security company members arrested three suspects for cable theft on Olifantsfontein Road in the early hours of May 12.
In a third incident, a man was seen on a property on Hampton Road and when confronted by the owner of the property, the man ran and hid in the veld behind the property.
In response, members of Sector 1 Crime Forum and TRSS apprehended the suspect and handed him over to the police.
Constable Eliot Mabulane, the spokesperson for the Midrand police, encouraged residents to keep reporting crimes in the area.
